CYNTHIA POWELL celebrates her 6th season as the founding conductor and Artistic Director of Melodia Women's Choir. A graduate of Westminster Choir College, she currently serves Organist and Choirmaster, West End Collegiate Church, NYC, and Organist/Choirmaster of Temple Sinai in Tenafly. Powell also conducts The Stonewall Chorale of NYC. She has been a guest conductor at Sarah Lawrence College, St. George's Choral Society, and the International Choral Festival in Havana, Cuba. In May 2008, Powell conducted the Queens College New Music Singers in works by composition majors at the school.
As a pianist and organist, she toured the U.S. and Europe with Meredith Monk's opera ATLAS, and Monk's Celebration Service and Quarry at the Spoleto, USA Festival, the Walker Arts Center, and Lincoln Center 2000 Festival, and the World Financial Center, and recently premiered the new choral version of Monk’s Book of Days at Merkin Hall. |
